When Elon Musk announced his bulletproof pickup truck, he promised that the Cybertruck would be made from “nearly impenetrable… ultra-hard 30X cold-rolled stainless steel.”
However, times move on and the Cybertruck is constantly evolving. Today, Elon Musk confirmed on Twitter that they will no longer be using 30X steel as the truck’s exoskeleton.
However, fans shouldn’t panic because, as Elon is known, he’s replacing 30X steel with something better.
Tesla is working with Elon’s other company, SpaceX, to create special alloys for the Starship and Cybertruck.
Elon is known for its vertical integration, and Tesla has its own materials engineers to create new alloys.
We are rapidly changing alloy compositions and forming methods, so traditional names like 304L will become more approximate.

No matter what materials Musk uses, we can be sure that the resulting truck will deliver on his promise of creating the ultimate post-apocalyptic vehicle.
